Game Day Habits of Elite Athletes
SRA Sports Therapy are honoured to take part in something much bigger than sport by supporting the Helping Hoops Charity Day later this month.
Coach Benjamin Galea is proudly representing SRA Sports Therapy at the Helping Hoops Charity Day, by stepping up for the 15-minute Free Throw Challenge – a fundraising event where every shot counts for a cause that truly matters.
What is Helping Hoops?
Founded by basketball inspiration and icon Adam Mckay who sadly passed away on April 17th 2024 after a short battle with stage 4 brain cancer, Helping Hoops is an independent charity that uses the game of basketball as a tool to inspire, empower, and support children and young people across Australia.
With over 850 participants and 600+ free basketball sessions each year, Helping Hoops works with children aged 8 to 21 from all walks of life—whether from migrant or refugee backgrounds, inner-city public housing estates, or young people living with disabilities or experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage.
This isn’t just about basketball. It’s about:
- Building self-esteem
- Fostering community and belonging
- Teaching leadership and goal-setting
- Instilling discipline
- Encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle
Helping Hoops is a shining example of what sport can be when it’s used to break down barriers and build stronger, more inclusive communities.
Our Role
As part of this year’s Charity Day, Coach Benjamin will give it his all as he participates in the 15-minute Free Throw Challenge – representing the SRA Team with pride and a solid shooting form! But more than the points on the scoreboard, it will be about showing up, standing alongside other passionate people, and supporting a cause that aligns perfectly with our own values of belief, discipline, and ownership.
Why It Matters
At SRA, we believe in developing not just athletes, but people. This means supporting opportunities that go beyond the gym floor – opportunities that shape character, provide belonging, and give young people a chance to thrive.
We’re proud to stand with Helping Hoops and all the amazing coaches, volunteers, and participants who make their programs so impactful.
