In 50 words or less, introduce yourself:
I’m a fiery red head who plays basketball in the NBL for the South East Melbourne Phoenix who also loves playing golf, hanging out with friends, my partner Kiera and my dog Ollie.
Congratulations on the recent signing, what are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
Being around my new teammates, getting back to how I know I can play and being out in the community of the heartland.
How have you found life settling back down in Melbourne?
Love it. I love how I can go to the city or the country from where I’m staying. I also love my support system around me with my friends, family and athletic community here.
A second congratulations for recently becoming engaged to your partner Kiera Rowe, tell us about the week leading up to this event:
Thank you. I Was very nervous leading into the day and played it off well I think. I did panic because I didn’t want to do anything out of the ordinary but Kiz bought it. She had no idea it was happening which made it perfect.
For those who are unaware, provide us with a brief summary about your knee injuries:
I’ve ruptured 3.5 acl’s. Did 3 of them within 4 years and it was a real struggle mentally. Now I’m back more physically and mentally stronger than ever before and have put all my injuries behind me.
How have these injuries helped you grow as a person?
I needed to grow up quickly. I matured because I had to learn how to take care of my body, my mind and my health. I put everything into my rehab which I believe helped me grow as a person.
Being guided by my support network, I was able to learn alot about myself in a short amount of time which I am forever grateful for.
This is your second off season training at SRA, what goals are we currently working towards?
Staying lean and getting stronger. Offseason is always difficult because it’s a long build up towards the nbl preseason with a heavy NBL1 schedule along with individual training sessions and programs. SRA does a great job of guiding me and helping me manage these loads.
Core strength is also a big key for me and so is my lateral quickness and explosive movements.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes who have sustained multiple injuries or setbacks during their career?
Don’t hide how you are feeling. Identify your support network and speak to them. If you bottle up your emotions you will only make matters worse for yourself. Speak out, find that support network and lean on them for help.
Your support network can be a family member, close friend, a coach, mentor or anyone in your circle that you trust to go to for advice or sometimes they just need to listen.
